Throw grenades on operations

This unit covers the competency required to effectively throw a grenade on operations in the Australian Defence Force (ADF). No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication. In a Defence context, this means that there is no civilian need to hold this unit in order to meet licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements.

Application

This competency was developed for combat arms personnel required to throw grenades on operations in a deployed operational environment but is applicable to any individual in this field of work.

The individual will be under supervision, usually as part of a team but if authorised has the ability to act independently in accordance with the Rules of Engagement.

All activities are carried out in accordance with relevant organisational policies and procedures.

1. Handle a grenade

1.1 Grenade is safely handled and carried in accordance with standard procedures.

1.2 Grenade is identified and selected according to operational requirements.

1.3 Throwing positions are adopted as required by environment and threat.

2. Throw a grenade

2.1 Grenade drills are conducted in accordance with standard procedures.

2.2 Targets are identified and engaged as required by the operational environment and in accordance with standard procedures.

3. Maintain and stow grenades

3.1 Grenade and associated equipment are cleaned and serviced in all operational conditions.

3.2 Defects are identified and reported to supervisor.
